Marketplaces and direct sellers — Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Etsy, Vinted — set the rules of the buyer-seller relationship and the platform's own role in it. Look for who pays for chargebacks, the conditions under which a seller's funds can be held, the platform's responsibility (or lack thereof) for counterfeit goods, and the data shared with brand partners after a purchase. Return policies described in marketing rarely match the small print on third-party listings.
